It is a casual day, and you decide to take a walk outside. You see a little girl jumping up and down then stops because she is out of breath. You notice her chest. You can see her shirt moving, as something was vibrating, back and forth. Then you notice an odd shaped lump located on left side of her chest. You begin to notice the little girl is wearing some type of armour under her shirt. You keep walking anyways unaware of the condition this child has.
Ectopia cordis is a rare heart malformation that is not completely understood by medical physicians and surgeons. In fact, Ectopia cordis is so rare that out of every one million babies born, only 5 to 8 are born with the malformation. Majority of the babies born with this condition do not survive the birth process and die within the first 16 days.
There are some survivors of Ectopia cordis, who are battling this condition. The oldest person to survive Ectopia cordis is a man named Christopher Wall, who is died at age 35. Christopher holds a Guinness World Record of being the oldest person with Ectopia cordis.

The reason why I chose Ectopia cordis for my ISU was mainly because of the awareness created on Instagram. One day, I was looking at the world trending section of the social network, and I stumbled across a picture of a little girl. The girl around 6 or 7, and had Ectopia cordis. Her mother created the instagram account in hopes of spreading awareness of her daughter's condition, in order to raise money for an expensive surgery that can only be done in America. I am really happy to hear that Virsaviya was able to get the right treatment.
